Ceasefire Follows India’s Success in Operation Sindoor; Over 100 Terrorists Killed, Says Military in Joint Press Briefing

New Delhi, May 11, 2025 — In the backdrop of intense cross-border clashes and rising militant activity, India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire on May 10 at 5 PM, following talks at the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) level. Sources confirm that this truce was brokered solely through military dialogue, with no direct involvement from National Security Advisors or foreign ministers.

At a joint press conference, Lt. Gen. Rajiv Ghai, the Indian Army’s DGMO, stated that Operation Sindoor was launched with the singular objective of eliminating terrorist threats. Over 100 terrorists were killed in the operation, including high-profile militants such as Mudasir Khar, Hafiz Jameel, and Yusuf Azhar. The strike came in response to the brutal April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians.

“This was the time for a decisive response,” said Ghai. “Operation Sindoor reflects India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. It was a comprehensive mission to dismantle both the planners and the infrastructure supporting terror activities.”

Joining the briefing were top military leaders from all three services—Air Marshal Avadhesh Kumar Bharti (Air Force) and Vice Admiral A.N. Pramod (Navy)—who together detailed the coordinated strategy behind the operation’s success.

Earlier in the day, a high-level meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) with the Defence Minister, chiefs of the three services, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. A Defence Ministry press briefing scheduled thereafter was briefly postponed.

Throughout May 10, the Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Defence held four press briefings, beginning with an update on Pakistan’s cross-border strikes at 10:45 AM. At 5 PM, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri officially announced the ceasefire agreement. Colonel Sofiya Qureshi later outlined India’s retaliatory military actions, while Misri returned at 10:55 PM to confirm further Pakistani ceasefire violations.

According to sources, another critical DGMO-level meeting is scheduled for May 12, aimed at solidifying and enforcing the ceasefire more effectively.
