New Delhi, May 9, 2025 — The Indian military on Friday confirmed that Pakistan violated Indian airspace on the intervening night of May 8 and 9, launching a massive drone offensive aimed at targeting military infrastructure across the country.
According to official sources, 300–400 drones were launched across 36 locations, spanning from Leh to Sir Creek, in what is being described as an unprecedented aerial incursion. The drones were aimed at Indian military installations, but most were intercepted and neutralized using a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic countermeasures.
A particularly concerning attempt involved an armed Pakistani UAV sent to target the Bathinda military station, which was successfully foiled by Indian forces before it could inflict damage.
“Our armed forces shot down many of the Pakistani drones using multiple defence layers,” the military said in its statement.
In a strong diplomatic response, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri condemned the incident, stating, “The Pakistani side targeted places of worship with a particular design; it is a new low even for Pakistan.”
The Indian Armed Forces remain on high alert as further provocations cannot be ruled out.
