New Delhi (National Times): Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra issued a heartfelt public statement on Thursday, addressing the wave of criticism he has received over his decision to invite Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem to compete at the upcoming Neeraj Chopra Classic.
Chopra emphasized that the invitation was extended “from one athlete to another,” with the sole intention of making the NC Classic a truly world-class sporting event. He clarified that the invites were sent to all athletes, including Nadeem, on Monday—two days before the terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 Indian lives.

“In light of the events in Pahalgam, Arshad’s presence at the NC Classic is completely out of the question,” Chopra affirmed, reiterating his loyalty to the nation. “My country and its interests will always come first.”
Responding to the personal attacks on his integrity and even his family, Chopra said he was hurt by the targeted hate. “There are so many false narratives that certain sections of the media have created around me, but just because I do not speak up, it doesn’t make it true,” he wrote.
He also condemned the inconsistency of public opinion, recalling how a similar sentiment expressed by his mother a year ago had received praise, while now the same statement is being used against her.
Chopra concluded with a resolute message: “I will work even harder to ensure that the world remembers India and looks at it with envy and respect for all the right reasons.”
