New Delhi, April 24, 2025 – A high-level all-party meeting was held on Wednesday in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, with the Centre briefing political leaders about the tragic incident that claimed 28 lives, mostly tourists. The meeting, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, aimed to present the facts, ongoing investigations, and future action plans while fostering political consensus in the national response to the attack.
Held at the Parliament Library Building, the meeting began with a moment of silence to honor the victims. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and top officials from intelligence agencies gave a detailed account of the attack and its suspected perpetrators. Shah confirmed that The Resistance Front, believed to be a Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy, was behind the assault, and assured that an extensive counter-terror operation was already underway in Jammu and Kashmir.
Political leaders from major parties, including Congress, TMC, DMK, BJD, NCP, and Shiv Sena (UBT), expressed full support for the government’s efforts. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi condemned the killings and stated that national unity is paramount. He assured the government that the opposition would back any strong action required to ensure justice and prevent such tragedies in the future.
TMC’s Sudip Bandyopadhyay and DMK’s TR Baalu called for stepped-up border surveillance and improved coordination among security agencies. NCP’s Supriya Sule emphasized the importance of diplomatic engagement with global powers to isolate terror sponsors, while Shiv Sena’s Priyanka Chaturvedi said the attack must not derail efforts to restore peace and stability in Kashmir.
The leaders were also briefed on the recent suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, closure of the Attari border post, withdrawal of diplomatic staff, and visa bans for Pakistani nationals. The Centre affirmed that these steps were part of a broader strategic recalibration following the attack.
There was a unanimous agreement that the nation must not be divided in the face of such violence and that justice must be swift. The government assured it would continue to keep political parties informed as the situation evolves and investigations progress.
The meeting closed with a united pledge to uphold the integrity and security of the nation and a collective commitment to combat terrorism in all its forms.
