New Delhi, April 24, 2025 — In a decisive response to the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 28 civilians, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has firmly ruled out any bilateral cricket engagements with Pakistan. The board said it stands completely aligned with the Indian government’s stance on cross-border terrorism and national interest.
BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla said on Tuesday that the cricket board will strictly follow the government’s directions on all matters related to cricket ties with Pakistan. “There will be no bilateral series with Pakistan. We only play in ICC events, which are not organized by us. Apart from that, we are not going to play with them,” Shukla stated.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia also condemned the attack and expressed deep sorrow. “The cricketing fraternity is anguished by the tragic loss of lives in the Pahalgam terror incident. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims. We stand in solidarity with them in this hour of grief,” he said.
The BCCI also paid tribute to the victims during Tuesday night’s IPL 2025 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians. Players from both teams wore black armbands and observed a moment of silence to honour those who lost their lives.
The Pahalgam attack, widely attributed to The Resistance Front (a Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy), has led to a cascade of diplomatic and strategic responses from India, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and closure of the Attari-Wagah border. The Indian government has also cancelled all visas for Pakistani citizens and downgraded military and diplomatic ties.
The BCCI’s decision to cut bilateral cricketing ties further underscores the national mood and the resolve to isolate Pakistan on every possible front — culturally, diplomatically, and now, on the sports field.
