New Delhi, April 22, 2025 — United States Vice President JD Vance met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the first day of his India visit, calling the Indian leader “a great leader” and thanking him for the warm hospitality extended to his family. The meeting reaffirmed the strength of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and marked a step forward in bilateral cooperation.
Calling the interaction an “honor,” Vance expressed admiration for Modi’s leadership and emphasized his intent to deepen India-US ties under President Donald Trump’s administration. “I look forward to working under President Trump’s leadership to strengthen our friendship and cooperation with the people of India,” Vance posted on X.
PM Modi shared his enthusiasm for the continued collaboration between the two democracies. “We are committed to mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, technology, defence, energy and people-to-people exchanges,” he wrote, highlighting shared progress since his last visit to the US.
During the high-level talks, both leaders launched the India-US COMPACT (Catalyzing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology) for the 21st Century. The initiative, grounded in mutual trust and shared goals, is expected to shape the future of strategic and economic relations between the two nations.
The meeting also included a formal announcement of the finalised Terms of Reference for a US-India Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA). This agreement aims to enhance bilateral trade and improve supply-chain integration. The leaders envision a modern trade framework that promotes job creation and economic well-being, aligned with India’s “Amrit Kaal” vision and the US’s “Golden Age” aspiration.
Vice President Vance, on a four-day official tour, is now in Jaipur with his family. He is scheduled to visit Agra on April 23 before concluding the visit on April 24.
