CM Saini Inaugurates Development Projects Worth Over ₹55 Crore to Boost Panchkula’s Smart City Dream

Panckula, April 19, 2025: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini took a major step towards making Panchkula a smart city by inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹55.38 crore on Friday. He dedicated a newly constructed bridge over the Ghaggar River, built at a cost of ₹50 crore, to public service, highlighting that it would become a milestone in the region’s progress by improving direct connectivity with National Highways 5, 7, and 152.

The CM also laid the foundation stone for two dispensary buildings in Sectors 28 and 31, costing around ₹4.64 crore, and a village secretariat in Kanoali village of Barwala, with an estimated cost of ₹74 lakh. Additionally, he announced ₹5 crore for other development works in the Panchkula Assembly area.

Addressing the gathering, Saini said that the aim is not just to transform Panchkula into a smart city, but also to make it a clean and healthy urban space. Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047, he emphasized Panchkula’s crucial role in shaping a developed Haryana.

The newly built bridge, 360 meters long and 16 meters wide, is the third bridge over the Ghaggar River in Panchkula. It will benefit residents of Sectors 25, 26, 27, 28, and 31, as well as commuters from the Barwala-Ramgarh side. Travel time to Zirakpur, Rajpura, Patiala, and the Mohali Airport will reduce significantly, and the bridge is expected to relieve traffic congestion in the region.

Saini shared that health services in Panchkula are also being upgraded. The district civil hospital has been expanded to 300 beds. A medical college and hospital worth ₹1,200 crore is under construction in Sector 32, while a ₹279 crore National Institute of Ayurveda is being built near the Mata Mansa Devi complex. A ₹51 crore Ayush yoga conference and training hall is also underway.

In terms of drinking water, pipelines worth ₹62 crore have been laid from Chandigarh’s Sector 39 to Panchkula. A ₹33.6 crore water treatment plant with a 32 MLD capacity has been set up in Sector 1. Additional treatment plants with varying capacities and costs are being developed across different sectors, including a ₹55.51 crore tertiary water treatment plant in Sector 20.

Saini also took aim at the Congress, challenging the party to present a report card of its governance. He said the current government is working with the motto of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas” and has already fulfilled 119 of the 240 promises made during elections.

Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao added that the government is committed to providing quality healthcare to every citizen, and 1,000 doctors have been recently appointed to meet this goal.

Former Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta expressed gratitude to the CM for the development push and urged him to establish a university in Panchkula. He noted that the Ghaggar bridge project, which began in February 2020, will benefit people traveling to and from Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
