Malerkotla (Punjab), March 31, 2025 – Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann strongly opposed the BJP-led NDA government’s Waqf Amendment Bill, pledging to fight it in both Parliament and the Vidhan Sabha. Addressing the media after participating in Eid celebrations, Mann assured the Muslim community that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stands firmly with them.
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the welfare of all communities and pledged to protect their rights. Mann also emphasized Punjab’s focus on groundwater conservation, citing the revival of 15,947 water courses, which has improved irrigation access and reduced groundwater exploitation.
War Against Drugs Gains Public Support
Mann welcomed public prayers at the Eid Gah for Punjab’s anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh”, highlighting the need for collective action to eliminate the drug menace. He stressed that public participation is crucial for making Punjab drug-free.
Major Eid Bonanza for Malerkotla
In a significant announcement, Mann unveiled development projects worth ₹200 crore for Malerkotla, aiming to transform it into a “model district.” Key projects include:
A 100-seat medical college and a 200-bed super-specialty hospital.
Upgrading the existing girls’ college.
Construction of a new District Administrative Complex and Tehsil Complex in Malerkotla, along with another in Amargarh.
Development of a new bus stand, link roads, sanitation facilities, and playgrounds.
Strengthening Jarg-Rauni and Khanna Road for better connectivity.
Launching mini-bus services for rural areas, with permits given to unemployed youth to create jobs.
Preserving Malerkotla’s Legacy
Mann acknowledged Malerkotla’s historical significance, recalling the Nawab’s opposition to the execution of Guru Gobind Singh’s younger sons at Sirhind. He pledged to ensure the city’s comprehensive development.
Additionally, the CM vowed to continue crackdowns on illegal properties, corruption in the Revenue Department, and drug trafficking.
“Punjab’s social fabric is too strong for the seed of hatred to grow,” Mann declared, reaffirming his government’s dedication to communal harmony and inclusive progress.
