Militants Hijack Jaffar Express in Pakistan, Over 100 Taken Hostage

Bolan, Pakistan – March 11, 2025 – The Jaffar Express, a passenger train traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, was hijacked by armed militants from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) in Balochistan’s Bolan district, sparking a major security crisis.

Attack and Hostage Situation

The attack occurred early Tuesday morning when the train, carrying approximately 400 passengers, was intercepted by heavily armed militants. The BLA claimed responsibility, stating that they had taken over 100 passengers hostage, including several security personnel. Reports indicate that at least six military personnel were killed during the assault.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as militants stormed the train, firing weapons and forcing passengers to comply with their demands. “They had automatic rifles and explosives. We were terrified,” one passenger said.

Government Response

The provincial government swiftly declared a state of emergency and deployed security forces to the region. Military units have been stationed near the site of the attack as negotiations are underway to secure the release of the hostages.

“We are assessing the situation and working to ensure the safe recovery of all passengers,” a government spokesperson stated. “We are prepared to take necessary action if the militants refuse to release the hostages.”

BLA’s Motive

The BLA, a separatist militant group seeking independence for Balochistan, has a history of attacking government and military targets. The group claims that the attack was in response to the “exploitation of Balochistan’s resources” and warned that any military intervention would “result in severe consequences for the hostages.”

International Concern

The incident has drawn international attention, with neighboring countries and human rights organizations expressing concern over the safety of the hostages and the escalating violence in the region.

As the situation unfolds, authorities remain on high alert, and families of the hostages are anxiously awaiting updates.
