Punjab Police Arrests Gangster Maxi After Fierce Encounter in Mohali

Mohali (National Times) – In a high-intensity encounter, Punjab’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), along with Mohali Police, successfully apprehended gangster Malkiat alias Maxi, a key operative of Goldy Brar and Goldy Dhillon. The operation took place near Ghaggar bridge on the Zirakpur-Ambala Highway, SAS Nagar, following a brief exchange of fire, as confirmed by DGP Gaurav Yadav.

Encounter and Arrest Details

According to police sources, Maxi opened fire on the police team in an attempt to flee. The police, acting in self-defense, returned fire, resulting in Maxi sustaining a gunshot wound to his left leg. He was immediately transported to Civil Hospital, Mohali, for treatment.

Maxi’s Criminal Involvement

A resident of Rodala village in Rajasansi, Amritsar, Maxi has been deeply involved in organized extortion operations. In January 2025, he and his gang demanded ₹50 lakh from a Mohali-based property dealer. He also has multiple criminal cases related to extortion and illegal arms possession.

Weapons Seized and Further Investigation

During the operation, police recovered a .32 caliber pistol from Ghaggar bridge, Dera Bassi. An FIR has been filed, and Maxi, along with his associate Sandeep, has been arrested on production warrants.

Tarn Taran Encounter

In another major development, Punjab Police engaged in a firefight with gangsters in Kheda village, Tarn Taran district, on Saturday. Two gangsters sustained injuries, while one was taken into custody. A police vehicle was hit by gunfire, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
