New Delhi (National Times): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on track to reclaim power in Delhi after nearly three decades, leading in 40 of the 70 Assembly seats, according to early election trends. This would end a 27-year drought for the saffron party in the national capital and create a rare alignment of state and national governments.
The BJP’s campaign, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, centered on local issues under the slogan “Delhi Chali Modi Ke Sath.” The party’s strategy to present a concrete roadmap for Delhi’s development appears to have resonated with voters, paving the way for its return to power.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), aiming for a third consecutive term, trails with leads in 28 seats. Once celebrated for its anti-corruption ethos, the party has faced challenges due to scandals and legal troubles involving its senior leadership.
The Congress party, a dominant force in Delhi politics until 2013, is staring at yet another defeat, with no seats to its name for the third consecutive election. Its inability to break through reflects a continued decline in the capital.
The 2025 election results will decide whether AAP’s grip on Delhi politics is truly broken. In previous elections, the party won landslides, taking 67 seats in 2015 and 62 in 2020.
With 60.54% voter turnout recorded during the February 5 polls, the counting of votes has revealed an intense three-way battle among Delhi’s political heavyweights. As trends solidify, it is clear that Delhi is set for a new chapter under BJP’s leadership.
