Why More People Are Choosing “Digital Detox Sundays” to Recharge

National Times Bureau, August 20, 2025: Scrolling endlessly, checking notifications, and juggling constant online updates have quietly become part of daily life. But lately, a growing number of people are embracing what they call “Digital Detox Sundays” a day to step away from screens and reconnect with themselves and the world around them.

The idea is simple: pick one day a week, usually Sunday, to stay offline as much as possible. No mindless scrolling, no late-night doomscrolling, and no buzzing notifications pulling attention in ten different directions. Instead, people use that time for activities often sidelined during the week cooking a slow meal, reading an actual book, taking a walk, or spending uninterrupted hours with family and friends.

Psychologists suggest that stepping away from screens even once a week can lower stress, improve sleep, and strengthen relationships. It also brings back the simple joy of being present in the moment. Some describe it as “resetting the brain,” giving space for creativity and calm to surface.

The trend isn’t about abandoning technology altogether. Rather, it’s about drawing boundaries so that life feels less rushed and more intentional. In a world where everything moves at lightning speed, many are finding that a little silence and a little offline time is the real luxury.
