Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): A spell of unsettled weather has brought down temperatures across Punjab and Chandigarh, offering relief from the recent heatwave conditions. The mercury has dipped well below normal levels, with cloudy skies and cool winds prevailing in many parts of the region.
The Meteorological Department has sounded a ‘Yellow Alert’ for the next two days, cautioning residents about the likelihood of thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rainfall. Wind speeds are expected to range between 40 and 50 km/h in several districts.
Areas such as Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, and Mohali are likely to witness strong winds along with storm activity, while rain is expected across a broader belt including Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, and Sangrur.
Temperature readings across the state have remained under 40°C, with most districts recording values in the low to mid-30s. Faridkot and Bathinda reported relatively higher temperatures compared to other regions, though still below peak summer levels.
Meteorologists link the ongoing conditions to a western disturbance interacting with local weather systems over north India. This combination is expected to keep the atmosphere unstable, resulting in periodic showers and gusty winds.
The outlook for the coming days suggests continued variability, with light rain and thunderstorms likely at scattered places until later in the week. Residents have been advised to stay alert, particularly during periods of strong winds and lightning.
