Chandigarh, December 22: Haryana’s Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Choudhry informed the Assembly during the winter session that WAPCOS, a public sector undertaking of the Government of India, has been assigned the task of updating the Master Plan-1998 related to the management of waterlogging and soil salinity problems in the state.
She said that WAPCOS has already submitted a draft report, which is currently undergoing ground-truthing to verify data and on-ground conditions. Based on this exercise, necessary modifications will be incorporated before finalisation.
The minister added that the updated master plan is expected to be finalised by June 30, 2026. The revised plan aims to provide a comprehensive and scientific roadmap to address long-standing issues of waterlogging and salinity in various parts of Haryana, which adversely affect agricultural productivity and groundwater quality.
The government, she said, is committed to sustainable water management and is taking systematic steps to tackle these challenges through expert-led planning and implementation.
