Dehradun (Rajeev Sharma): A road accident near Lalpul in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun district left five people injured after their car plunged into a gorge early in the morning.
The incident occurred on the road ahead of Sahia, following which information about the accident was conveyed to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). A rescue team from Chakrata was promptly mobilised to reach the spot.
Vehicle Found Deep Inside Gorge
When the SDRF personnel arrived, they found the car approximately 35 metres below the road surface. Five occupants were trapped in the vehicle, including three men and two women.
Initial assessment showed that two of them had sustained serious injuries, while the other three suffered minor injuries.
SDRF, Police Join Hands in Rescue
The rescue operation was carried out jointly by the SDRF team and local police personnel.
Rescuers descended into the gorge and reached the stranded occupants before carefully bringing them out one by one. Despite the challenging terrain, the team managed to evacuate all five people safely.
Following the rescue, the injured were brought to a point accessible to emergency vehicles.
All Injured Shifted to Hospital
The five occupants were subsequently transported by ambulance to a hospital for medical treatment. The condition of the two seriously injured persons will be monitored by doctors.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the circumstances that caused the vehicle to plunge off the road. Further details are expected as officials assess the accident and establish how the crash occurred.
The incident once again highlights the risks posed by mountainous roads in Uttarakhand, where accidents can quickly turn into complex rescue operations because of steep slopes and difficult terrain.
