Dehradun (Rajeev Shama): In a significant move aimed at honoring local heroes and instilling a sense of pride among the youth, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved the renaming of government schools after legendary freedom fighters. The decision was announced along with the rollout of several infrastructure projects across the state.
According to a government press release, schools in districts like Pauri Garhwal, Dehradun, and Pithoragarh will now bear the names of prominent freedom fighters, including Shaheed Bhagat Singh Rawat, Pandit Sairam, Kunwar Singh Rawat, and Shri Madho Singh Jangpangi.
Strengthening Basic Infrastructure
In addition to the renaming initiative, the Chief Minister also approved multiple development projects aimed at improving the state’s infrastructure. A budget of ₹62 crore has been sanctioned for the maintenance and upgradation of drinking water schemes, ensuring the supply of clean and safe water in both urban and rural areas.
Key Projects Approved
- Rs 11.04 crore for the construction of a multi-level parking and multipurpose building in the Pati development block (Champawat district).
- Rs 4.66 crore to convert the Chitai–Petshal–Bhetadagi road in Almora district into an all-weather motor road.
- Rs 2.83 crore for the construction of a span bridge and approach road on the Levada river in Bajpur.
- Rs 1.16 crore allocated for car parking near the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath (Rudraprayag district).
- Funds for the DPR of a tunnel parking facility at Ganganai (Garam Pani) near Jankichatti in Uttarkashi.
These decisions underscore the government’s commitment to preserving historical legacy while simultaneously accelerating infrastructure development. By linking educational institutions with the legacy of freedom fighters, the state aims to cultivate patriotism and awareness among students, while investments in basic infrastructure promise to boost connectivity and quality of life.
