Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Seeks Centre’s Approval for ₹17,075 Crore Urban, Water, and Energy Projects

New Delhi, October 9, 2025: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss key projects aimed at upgrading urban infrastructure, water resources, and energy systems across the state.

Dhami highlighted the growing pressure on urban areas and emphasized the urgent need to modernize drainage systems in districts prone to heavy rainfall. He informed the Finance Minister that Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) worth ₹8,589.47 crore have been prepared for stormwater drainage improvements in ten districts and requested approval under the Special Assistance Scheme for Capital Investment to States.

The Chief Minister also sought early sanction for pending Externally Aided Projects (EAPs). While the Uttarakhand Climate Resilience Development Project has been cleared, proposals totaling ₹1,650 crore including ₹850 crore under the Public Financial Management Strengthening Project and ₹800 crore for water supply enhancements are awaiting approval.

Dhami further urged the Centre to approve four major projects beyond the EAP ceiling for 2023–26:

Urban Infrastructure Development Project for Water and Sanitation: ₹2,000 crore

DRIP-III Project: ₹424 crore

Intra-State Power Transmission System Development Project: ₹3,638 crore

Power Distribution Reliability Improvement Project: ₹1,566 crore

“These initiatives will strengthen Uttarakhand’s basic infrastructure, improve resource management, and enhance service delivery systems across the state,” Dhami said. Finance Minister Sitharaman assured him of the Centre’s continued support for these critical projects.
