New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): Law enforcement authorities have taken a married couple into custody following a coordinated three-day search operation linked to the killing of a Delhi University faculty member. The deceased, identified as 49-year-old assistant professor Devosmita Paul from Shivaji College, was found dead inside her residence located at Satyam Apartments in the Vasundhara Enclave area of East Delhi.
The crucial breakthrough in the case followed a detailed review of images from more than 100 surveillance cameras situated near the housing society. Security footage showed a masked male and a female accomplice entering the complex and subsequently departing at different intervals about half an hour apart on the day of the incident. Utilizing these visual leads, specialized police squads tracked the movements of the suspects, ending their attempt to evade capture within three days of the initial discovery.
The incident was uncovered on Thursday afternoon when the victim’s sister, Devarati Paul, visited the residence after failing to establish telephone contact since Wednesday morning. Finding the main entrance locked from the exterior, she broke the lock to enter the apartment, where she discovered the professor’s body and immediately notified emergency services.
Medical examiners and forensic experts noted that the deceased had sustained a severe blow to the head from a blunt instrument, along with an injury to her wrist. Because there were no visible signs of forced entry or disturbed belongings inside the flat, detectives suspected the involvement of acquaintances. Following the initial assessment, the New Ashok Nagar police registered a formal homicide case, leading directly to the tracking and detention of the two suspects.
