Surrey (Rajeev Sharma): Canadian investigators have intensified their probe into a suspected targeted shooting in Surrey after two men of Punjabi origin were formally charged in connection with the incident, while authorities continue to examine possible links to a wider criminal network.
The Surrey Police Service (SPS) confirmed that 21-year-old Arman Singh and 22-year-old Simarjeet Singh have each been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm under the Criminal Code of Canada. The duo has been remanded in custody and is expected to appear before a court on June 29.
The case stems from a shooting reported during the early hours of June 11, when emergency responders were alerted to gunfire outside a residence near 96 Avenue and 133A Street in Surrey. Investigators later confirmed that bullets struck the exterior of the home, although no residents were physically injured.

Police initially secured the scene before handing the investigation to the Surrey Police Service’s Extortion Response Team, which launched a detailed inquiry with assistance from specialised units. Investigators subsequently identified multiple suspects and carried out searches at two locations believed to be connected to the case.
A coordinated operation involving the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), and Surrey Police officers resulted in the detention of four individuals. While charges have so far been filed against two of them, the remaining detainees continue to be held by immigration authorities as officials examine their status.
Authorities confirmed that the accused are foreign nationals but have not released additional details regarding their immigration proceedings.
Investigators suspect the incident may be part of a broader pattern of extortion-related violence that has affected parts of British Columbia in recent months. Police are now working to determine whether the shooting was connected to organised criminal groups operating across the region.
To advance the investigation, the Surrey Police Service has publicly released photographs of the two accused and appealed for information from witnesses or anyone who may have knowledge of individuals linked to the case.
Officials stressed that the investigation remains active and that additional arrests or charges cannot be ruled out as detectives continue analysing evidence and tracing the alleged network’s activities.
Police have reiterated their commitment to tackling gun violence and organised crime, stating that efforts are underway to dismantle criminal operations responsible for intimidation, extortion and firearm-related offences in the province.
