Surrey (Rajeev Sharma): Surrey Police Service (SPS) has announced arrests, charges, and significant drug seizures following a four-month investigation known as “Project Phantom,” targeting individuals allegedly involved in drug trafficking activities in Surrey.
The investigation began in February 2026 when SPS’s Prolific Offender Unit (POU) launched an operation into several individuals suspected of trafficking illegal drugs, including fentanyl. During the course of the investigation, officers gathered evidence linking alleged drug trafficking activities to a residence in Surrey.
On May 21, 2026, POU detectives obtained and executed a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) at the residence. The operation was carried out with assistance from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team (LMD ERT), and SPS frontline officers.
During the search, police seized a large quantity of illicit drugs with an estimated street value of approximately $891,000. The seizure included 15.89 kilograms of opium, 1,529 grams of cannabis, 559 grams of cocaine, 468 grams of fentanyl, 148 grams of methamphetamine, and 35 grams of heroin. Investigators also recovered packaging materials, scales, cookware believed to be used in drug processing and distribution, along with $2,149.90 in Canadian currency. According to police, the amount of fentanyl seized is estimated to represent approximately 23,400 potentially lethal doses, highlighting the significant public safety risk posed by the operation.
Three men were initially arrested during the execution of the search warrant and later released while the investigation continued. Following further investigation, 24-year-old Gurjot Singh was arrested on June 19, 2026, and charged with one count of trafficking in a controlled substance and five counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Gurjot Singh has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 26, 2026. Police confirmed that Singh is a foreign national and that SPS has engaged the Canada Border Services Agency regarding the matter. The other two men who were initially arrested have not been charged with any criminal offences and have since been removed from Canada by CBSA.
Surrey Police stated that Project Phantom reflects the agency’s ongoing commitment to disrupting organized drug trafficking networks and preventing dangerous substances, particularly fentanyl, from reaching communities.
