Rajeev Sharma :- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday visited the iconic Taj Mahal along with his wife Jeanette D. Rubio during his official visit to India. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also accompanied the couple during the visit to the historic monument in Agra.
Rubio is currently on a four-day visit to India and is scheduled to participate in the upcoming Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday. The high-level gathering will bring together representatives from India, the United States, Australia and Japan to deliberate on key regional and global issues.
The visit to the Taj Mahal comes amid growing diplomatic engagement between India and the United States. The marble monument, recognised as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, has long remained a major attraction for foreign dignitaries and world leaders visiting India.
Earlier, US Vice President JD Vance had also visited the Taj Mahal with his family, while former US President Donald Trump toured the monument during his first term and described it as a symbol of India’s rich cultural heritage.
During his India visit, Rubio also held meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. He had earlier visited the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata as part of his diplomatic itinerary.
The Quad meeting in New Delhi is expected to focus on Indo-Pacific security, maritime cooperation, supply chain resilience and emerging geopolitical challenges, including tensions in West Asia.
