Chandigarh, October 17, 2025— The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested Ropar Range DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹8 lakh from a scrap dealer in Mandi Gobindgarh. The officer was caught red-handed in a trap laid by the agency at his Mohali office.
Following his arrest, CBI teams conducted searches at Bhullar’s residence, recovering ₹5 crore in cash, 1.5 kilograms of gold jewellery, multiple luxury cars and watches, and important documents.
After undergoing a medical examination, Bhullar was presented before the CBI court and sent to 14 days of judicial custody. Speaking briefly to reporters outside the court, he said, “The court will deliver justice.”
Sources revealed that Bhullar allegedly demanded monthly bribes from the complainant to allow his scrap business to operate illegally. The initial demand of ₹2 lakh was reportedly increased to ₹6 lakh. The CBI, acting on the complaint, formed a surveillance team and closely monitored the DIG’s activities, ultimately arresting him when the money was handed over at his office.
Further investigations are underway to ascertain the full extent of Bhullar’s alleged corruption and to identify other potential beneficiaries of the illegal payments.
