Gurpreet Singh :- Punjab has emerged as the top-performing state in school education in the latest NITI Aayog Education Quality Report 2026, overtaking Kerala and several other leading states in the country. The state government has attributed the achievement to extensive reforms introduced in government schools over the past few years.
Announcing the development, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said Punjab secured the number one position in primary and middle-level education, outperforming states such as Kerala, Maharashtra and Delhi. He described the achievement as a reflection of the state’s sustained efforts to strengthen the public education system and improve learning outcomes.
The Chief Minister said Punjab’s education model has now become an example for the rest of the country. He asserted that the transformation of government schools is visible not only in infrastructure but also in academic performance, with students excelling in subjects such as languages and mathematics.
According to the government, more than 80 per cent of schools in Punjab are now equipped with smart classrooms, while nearly all government schools have access to electricity and computer facilities. The administration claims these improvements have significantly enhanced the learning environment for students across the state.
Mann further stated that Punjab’s students are now competing at the highest level in multiple academic fields and that the state’s focus on modernising education has begun to yield measurable results. The government maintained that the latest rankings validate its efforts to prioritise education and strengthen public schooling throughout Punjab.
