Punjab Police Foils Suspected Terror Plot, Two Held with IED in Mohali

Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): In a significant counter-terrorism operation, Punjab Police has arrested two alleged associates of a foreign-based terror operative from Mohali and recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), officials said on Thursday.

The action was carried out by the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), SAS Nagar, following intelligence inputs regarding a suspected conspiracy targeting key public infrastructure in the region.

According to police, the recovery of the explosive device helped thwart a planned attack that could have posed a serious threat to public safety. Officials described the operation as a major breakthrough in efforts to dismantle cross-border terror networks operating in Punjab.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the arrested individuals were linked to an overseas-based handler and were allegedly involved in executing instructions aimed at destabilising law and order. The exact target and nature of the planned attack have not been officially disclosed.

Police teams are now working to trace the wider network behind the conspiracy. Investigators are examining the role of foreign-based operatives, local facilitators, logistical support channels and other possible connections linked to the case.

Senior officials said further arrests and recoveries cannot be ruled out as the probe progresses. Security agencies are also analysing digital and technical evidence collected during the operation to establish the full scope of the network.

The successful interception of the alleged plot comes amid continued efforts by Punjab Police to curb terror-related activities and organised criminal networks in the state.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security, stating that intelligence-led operations against anti-national elements would continue across Punjab to prevent threats to public infrastructure and civilian safety.
