Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): In a significant security operation ahead of Independence Day, the Amritsar Rural Police on Friday arrested four individuals alleged to be associated with the banned Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF). Investigators claim the suspects were conspiring to carry out a terror strike, prompting an intensified probe into their activities.
According to officials familiar with the investigation, the arrested men are suspected of involvement in previous attacks on police infrastructure, where petrol bombs and grenades were allegedly used. Police are now examining whether the group was linked to multiple incidents that have taken place in the district over the past few months.
Sources said investigators believe the accused acted under the guidance of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). They are alleged to have hurled a petrol bomb at the Chamiari police post, which comes under the Ajnala police station limits, on the night of July 23. While no injuries were reported, police officials have maintained that no such attack occurred at the police post, and the matter remains under investigation.
Authorities are also exploring possible links between the four suspects and other high-profile cases, including the killing of Assistant Sub-Inspector Joga Singh and the explosion reported outside the Khasa military area. Officials clarified that no connection has been confirmed and that investigators are working to verify whether the arrested individuals played any role in those incidents.
The four accused are currently being interrogated as police attempt to uncover the scope of the alleged conspiracy and identify any additional persons who may have been involved. They are expected to be produced before a local court, where investigators will seek police custody for further questioning.
A senior police official is likely to address the media later in the day to provide further details on the arrests and the progress of the investigation.
