Chandigarh, December 11, 2025: Punjab’s crackdown on drugs continued on the 285th consecutive day as police arrested 85 drug smugglers during statewide raids under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s ongoing anti-narcotics campaign, Yudh Nashian Virudh. Officials said 74 FIRs were registered after raids at 338 locations across Punjab. With the latest action, the total number of arrested drug smugglers has risen to 40,109 in 285 days.
Police recovered 2 kg of heroin, 335 intoxicant pills and ₹800 in drug proceeds during the day-long operation. Over 120 police teams, consisting of more than 1,000 personnel and supervised by 75 gazetted officers, were deployed for the coordinated crackdown. Teams also checked 339 suspicious individuals during the operation.
The Chief Minister has directed Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners and SSPs to intensify efforts to make Punjab a drug-free state. A five-member Cabinet Subcommittee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has been established to monitor the campaign.
Alongside enforcement, the state government is implementing a three-pronged strategy of Enforcement, De-addiction and Prevention (EDP). As part of the de-addiction push, Punjab Police persuaded 38 individuals to voluntarily undergo rehabilitation and treatment on Thursday.
