Punjab Intensifies Electoral Roll Revision; Holiday Camps Set Up Across Polling Booths to Assist Voters

News Alert

Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): The Punjab administration has stepped up preparations for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of electoral rolls by organising special verification camps across the state on July 11 and 12. Although the two days fall during the holiday period, government and government-aided schools functioning as polling stations have been instructed to remain open to support the exercise.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring that voter records are updated within the scheduled timeframe. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be available at polling stations between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM to verify applications, collect supporting documents, correct discrepancies and assist citizens with voter-related queries.

To facilitate the programme, the School Education Department has directed all teaching and non-teaching staff to report for duty. School authorities have been asked to provide logistical support and coordinate with election officials to ensure the camps function smoothly.

Election authorities have also instructed Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers to monitor the process closely. Senior officials will oversee camp operations, review progress and ensure that pending applications are processed without delay.

Apart from verifying voter details, the focus during the two-day drive will be on digitising forms already collected during the house-to-house survey and rectifying incomplete or incorrect entries before they are uploaded to the electoral database.

The revision exercise, which commenced on June 25, will continue until July 24. Officials believe the special camps will help accelerate the process by enabling voters to complete formalities at a single location instead of waiting for door-to-door visits.

To strengthen the campaign, personnel from multiple government departments—including revenue officials, Anganwadi workers and local body staff—have been assigned to assist election teams. Their responsibilities include public outreach, document verification and coordination at polling stations.

The Election Department has appealed to eligible voters to visit their designated polling booths during the camps to verify their information and ensure their names and personal details are correctly reflected in the electoral rolls before the revision process concludes.
