Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Another spell of rain is likely across Punjab on Tuesday, with 18 districts expected to receive light to moderate showers as cloudy conditions persist over Chandigarh.
The latest weather assessment indicates that temperatures have eased across the state, with the maximum temperature falling by 1.3 degrees Celsius. Despite the decline, readings remain close to the seasonal average. Bathinda recorded the highest temperature at 36°C.
Rain or thundershowers are likely in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Ropar, Mohali, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Moga, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala.
Ropar Gets 23.5 mm Rain
The latest spell has already brought significant rainfall to some areas. Ropar recorded 23.5 mm of rain on Monday, while showers were also reported around Chandigarh Airport, Bathinda and Faridkot.
However, rainfall figures from these locations had not been officially recorded at the time of the initial assessment. The Meteorological Department is expected to provide updated information on overnight rainfall by around 9 am.
Two Weather Systems Driving Rain
The prevailing weather pattern is being influenced by an active monsoon trough, which remains positioned close to its normal location, along with a Western Disturbance affecting Jammu and Kashmir and neighbouring areas.
Their combined influence is expected to keep skies generally cloudy and trigger intermittent showers and thunderstorms across parts of Punjab and Chandigarh.
Reservoir Levels Remain Below Full Capacity
Meanwhile, water levels in the state’s key reservoirs remain below their respective full reservoir levels.
The Bhakra reservoir was at 1,644.33 feet, against a full reservoir level of 1,680 feet. The inflow was recorded at 30,179 cusecs, while the outflow stood at 25,900 cusecs.
At Pong, the water level was 1,372.4 feet, compared with its 1,400-foot full reservoir level. The reservoir was receiving 15,970 cusecs, while the release stood at 17,339 cusecs.
