Gurpreet Singh :- A tragic incident from Punjab’s Gurdaspur district has raised serious questions over school discipline practices after a 15-year-old student allegedly died by suicide following punishment at a private school in Dasuya. The deceased, identified as Navjot Singh from village Jhanda Lubana in block Kahnuwan, was reportedly penalized for a minor mistake on April 27 and made to stand in the sun for two consecutive periods. Distressed by the punishment, he allegedly consumed a poisonous substance after returning home. He was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he remained under treatment for several days but ultimately succumbed. The incident sparked outrage among family members and fellow students, who accused the school administration of excessive punishment and demanded strict action. During the last rites, students also came forward alleging misconduct by the school authorities. Police officials confirmed that a case has been registered against the school management, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
