New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced on Saturday that acclaimed writer and lyricist Prasoon Joshi has been appointed as the Chairman of Prasar Bharati, the public service broadcaster of India. Joshi, who is widely recognised for his extensive contributions to the fields of advertising, film, and public messaging, will lead the autonomous body that oversees Doordarshan and All India Radio. The government expressed confidence that his deep cultural sensibility and impactful writing will help shape a renewed narrative for contemporary Indian media.
Born in 1971 in Almora, Uttarakhand, Joshi established himself as a prominent figure in the advertising industry before becoming the CEO and Chief Creative Officer of McCann Worldgroup India. He also served as the Chairman of McCann Worldgroup Asia Pacific, where he managed significant campaigns for both global and domestic entities. His professional career has been defined by an ability to craft stories that resonate emotionally while reflecting intricate cultural insights, a skill set that the ministry believes will be vital for the future of public service broadcasting.
In addition to his corporate success, Joshi is a celebrated poet and scriptwriter whose work has been featured in some of Bollywood’s most iconic films.
