PM Modi to Launch Green Mobility Push, Unveil Major Infrastructure Projects Across Three Northern States

Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh/Balwinder Singh/Rajeev Sharma): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab on Friday to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of development projects collectively worth more than ₹23,000 crore, with the agenda focusing on sustainable transport, healthcare expansion, railway modernisation and improved road connectivity.

The day-long visit will begin in Jind, Haryana, where the Prime Minister will formally launch India’s first hydrogen-powered passenger train, a project seen as a significant step in reducing carbon emissions from the railway sector. The train, developed using indigenous technology, is expected to showcase India’s growing capabilities in next-generation rail transport and clean energy.

During his Haryana visit, Modi will also dedicate several National Highway projects to the nation while initiating work on new road corridors aimed at improving freight movement and reducing travel time across the region. The infrastructure package includes sections of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, along with highway projects connecting important industrial, agricultural and religious centres.

Apart from transport projects, the Prime Minister will inaugurate new government medical institutions in Bhiwani and Narnaul, expected to strengthen healthcare delivery and expand opportunities for medical education. Housing beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) will also receive the keys to their newly constructed homes during the programme.

The Prime Minister will later arrive in Chandigarh, where he is scheduled to launch projects exceeding ₹4,700 crore. Key highlights include the inauguration of advanced healthcare facilities at PGIMER, including specialised centres for maternal care and neurological treatment, as well as the foundation stone for a new critical care block under the Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission.

Educational infrastructure will also receive attention, with new hostel facilities and research infrastructure being developed at Punjab Engineering College and other institutions. Road projects linking Chandigarh with surrounding urban centres are also part of the day’s programme.

In the final leg of his tour, Modi will visit Jalandhar to dedicate railway and highway projects worth over ₹5,400 crore. The Prime Minister will inaugurate the redeveloped Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and flag off the Amritsar–Varanasi Express, enhancing direct rail connectivity between two important religious destinations.

The visit will also see the inauguration of a new railway line improving connectivity between Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, along with additional highway projects aimed at easing traffic movement and supporting economic activity in the region.

Extensive security arrangements have been put in place across all three locations, with thousands of police personnel and central security forces deployed to ensure smooth conduct of the Prime Minister’s engagements.

The visit reflects the Centre’s continued emphasis on infrastructure-led development, environmentally sustainable transport, modern healthcare facilities and enhanced connectivity across northern India.
