Dehradun (Rajeev Sharma): A day after the devastating cloudburst triggered flash floods in Uttarkashi’s Dharali region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally reached out to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to assess the situation and review ongoing relief and rescue efforts.
In a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, it was confirmed that PM Modi held a phone conversation with CM Dhami on Wednesday, expressing concern over the tragic events in the hill district and inquiring about the status of operations on the ground.
The statement read: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi today spoke to Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami over the phone and inquired about the recent disaster in the Dharali area of Uttarkashi district and the updated status of relief and rescue operations. CM Dhami told the Prime Minister that the state government is engaged in relief and rescue operations with full readiness.”
Chief Minister Dhami informed the Prime Minister that, despite heavy and persistent rainfall creating hurdles in some areas, all state and central agencies were working in close coordination to ensure timely aid to affected families. The CM reiterated the government’s commitment to restoring normalcy and reaching every stranded resident as quickly as possible.
In response, Prime Minister Modi assured that the central government would extend all necessary support to the state. He also emphasized the importance of speedy relief and rehabilitation for those impacted by the disaster.
The conversation between the two leaders comes as Uttarkashi grapples with the aftermath of the flash floods, which have claimed four lives and left over 60 people missing. Search and rescue operations, spearheaded by the Indian Army and disaster response forces, continue amid difficult weather conditions.
