PGIMER Chandigarh Treats Seven Burn Injury Cases Linked to Diwali Firecrackers

Chandigarh, October 21, 2025 — The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, reported seven cases of burn injuries during this year’s Diwali celebrations, all linked to firecracker-related accidents.

According to the Department of Plastic Surgery, three individuals sustained severe hand injuries after crackers exploded in their hands, while another patient suffered facial burns. All four required surgical intervention and were operated on at the Advanced Trauma Centre (ATC).

Another patient with minor thermal burns, covering less than three percent of the body, received treatment and was discharged soon after recovery.

Two other patients sustained major burn injuries and are currently under intensive care in the Burn ICU and High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the Department of Plastic Surgery.

Hospital officials confirmed that PGIMER had made comprehensive emergency arrangements in advance, allowing doctors to provide immediate and effective medical care to all injured patients.
