New Delhi (National Times): In a major crackdown on espionage activities allegedly linked to Pakistan, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted extensive search operations at 15 locations across eight Indian states on Saturday. The raids form part of an ongoing investigation into a spy network operated by Pakistan-based intelligence operatives.
The NIA confirmed that the searches were carried out at premises associated with individuals suspected of maintaining links with Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs). The locations span multiple states, including Delhi, Maharashtra (Mumbai), Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Assam, and West Bengal.
During the coordinated raids, NIA teams seized a trove of electronic gadgets, sensitive financial records, and other incriminating material. Investigators are currently analyzing these items for evidence pointing to an espionage conspiracy reportedly orchestrated by Pakistan-based agents against India.
According to the NIA, the individuals targeted in Saturday’s operation are believed to have acted as financial conduits and collaborators for Pakistani operatives. Their alleged involvement includes sharing sensitive information and facilitating the movement of funds to support anti-national activities.
The probe stems from case number RC-12/2025/NIA/DLI, which was registered on May 20 following the arrest of a key suspect. The accused is alleged to have been transmitting classified intelligence to PIOs since 2023 and receiving funds via multiple Indian channels in return.
The case is being investigated under several stringent legal provisions, including Sections 61(2), 147, and 148 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, Sections 3 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and Section 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967.
The NIA affirmed that the investigation is ongoing and aims to dismantle the wider network of operatives involved in the espionage ring.
