New Delhi, November 16, 2025 — The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made a significant breakthrough in the Red Fort car bomb blast case, arresting a Kashmir resident accused of conspiring with the suicide bomber who carried out the deadly attack that killed 13 people.
The arrested man, Rashid Ali, was taken into custody in Delhi. According to the NIA, the car used in the explosion was registered in his name, and he had played a central role in facilitating the plot.
The probe agency, which took over the investigation from Delhi Police, launched an extensive nationwide search before tracking down Ali. Investigators found that he had worked closely with Dr Umar Un Nabi, the man who drove the explosive-laden vehicle that detonated near the Red Fort on November 10.
The NIA has, for the first time, officially described Umar Un Nabi as a “suicide bomber” and the vehicle used in the attack as a “vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (IED).” Umar, an assistant professor in the general medicine department at Al Falah University in Faridabad, was forensically identified as the deceased driver of the explosive vehicle.
Investigations further revealed that an associate named Amir had travelled to Delhi to help purchase the car later converted into the vehicle-borne IED.
The agency has also seized another vehicle belonging to Umar, which is now under forensic examination. So far, the NIA has questioned 73 witnesses, including several injured in the blast.
The investigation spans multiple states, with coordinated efforts involving Delhi Police, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Uttar Pradesh Police, Haryana Police and central intelligence agencies. The NIA is now pursuing additional leads to uncover the wider conspiracy and identify all individuals linked to the bombing.
Authorities said the probe remains active and is expected to reveal more names connected to the terror plot.
