Burnaby (Amrit Dhot): The New Burnaby Party (NBP) has released its platform for Burnaby’s 2026 municipal election, focusing on public safety, affordability, economic development, transportation, parks and neighbourhood cleanliness.
Developed through consultations with residents, the platform proposes restricting illicit drug use in public spaces and government-funded housing, increasing support for the Burnaby RCMP, using technology to improve police resource allocation and continuing efforts to reduce preventable traffic fatalities.
The NBP proposes a 0% property-tax increase in its first budget, with future increases capped at inflation for the following four years. It also calls for greater fiscal restraint, improved municipal efficiency and measures to attract businesses and investment.
Its economic proposals include more flexible zoning for local businesses, support for employment-generating and technology companies, lower business-licence renewal fees and faster municipal permitting. For transportation, the party proposes smarter traffic signals, more pick-up, drop-off and delivery zones, improved transit-stop locations and public consultation on parking needs. The platform also calls for protecting and expanding parks and green spaces, preserving the city’s tree canopy, improving park accessibility and addressing graffiti and neighbourhood cleanliness. The NBP’s Burnaby City Council candidates include Richard T. Lee , Avtar Dhinsa , Morgan Nicholsfigueiredo Hadis, Neha Unadkat and David Xie.
