Jalandhar (Gurpreet Singh): A protest broke out at Lovely Professional University (LPU) early morning after students raised concerns over an alleged rape involving a female student from the university’s G3 hostel.
According to Jalandhar Range DIG Naveen Singla, a large group of students gathered around 2 am and blocked the National Highway while demanding action in the case. The students reportedly claimed that the alleged incident had taken place three days earlier and that no police action had been taken.
Police said the students’ statement has now been received and the process of registering an FIR has been initiated. As the identity of the alleged accused has not been established, the case is initially being registered against an unknown person.
Singla said the investigation will rely on scientific and technical evidence. Police teams are expected to examine CCTV recordings, conduct forensic analysis and analyse relevant phone data to establish what happened and identify the person responsible.
The police official also said a special investigation team (SIT) would be constituted to handle the probe. Student representatives are expected to be consulted during the investigation.
The protestors also raised several issues related to hostel facilities and security, including separate concerns involving the boys’ and girls’ hostels. Police officials and student representatives are scheduled to meet with LPU management to discuss these demands.
Authorities said a copy of the FIR will be provided to the students once the registration process is completed. Police have assured the students that the allegations will be investigated on the basis of available evidence and that further legal action will follow the findings of the probe.
