Lightning Strike Topples 150-Year-Old Tree in Khanna, Damages Houses and Power Lines

Gurpreet Singh :- Early morning rain brought much-needed relief from the intense heat across several parts of Punjab, but the accompanying thunderstorm also caused damage in some areas. In Khanna’s Chhota Khanna locality, a lightning strike hit a nearly 150-year-old tree, leading to significant damage to nearby properties and power infrastructure.

According to local residents, the tree was struck during a spell of heavy thunder and lightning before dawn. The impact caused a large portion of the tree to collapse onto adjoining houses and overhead electricity lines. Several residential structures suffered damage, particularly boundary walls and rooftop sections, while power lines were snapped, disrupting electricity supply in the area.

Residents said the incident could have resulted in a major tragedy had people been outdoors at the time. Fortunately, most families were inside their homes when the tree came crashing down, and no casualties or injuries were reported.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with severe weather conditions, with authorities urging people to remain indoors during thunderstorms and avoid taking shelter near large trees or power installations.
