Jalandhar (Gurpreet Singh): Jalandhar Police have arrested a man who was allegedly wanted by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in connection with a fraud case involving nearly $600,000.
The accused, identified as Manjit Singh Bedi, was taken into custody following a specific intelligence input received by the police. Officials said a special team was formed to trace him after information about his whereabouts emerged.
According to the Jalandhar Police Commissioner, a fraud case was registered at a city police station on August 16, 2026. During the subsequent investigation, police received information about Bedi and began tracking his movements.
He was eventually intercepted while travelling and arrested by the police team.
Alleged Fraud in the US
Investigators said Bedi was allegedly involved in a financial fraud in the United States carried out in the name of a company. The alleged offences took place between 2024 and 2025, with the disputed amount estimated at around $600,000.
Police said the FBI had declared Bedi wanted in connection with the case. According to the information available to investigators, the US agency had also directed him to surrender his passport and other relevant material.
However, he allegedly failed to comply with the instructions and subsequently left the United States before returning to India.
FBI Had Announced Reward
Jalandhar Police said the FBI had also announced a reward for information that could lead to Bedi’s arrest.
His eventual detention in Jalandhar followed a specific input and a coordinated operation by the local police team. Officials are now examining his movements and activities after his return to India.
Investigation Underway
The police investigation is continuing to establish the complete nature of the alleged financial fraud and determine whether Bedi was involved in any other activities while in India.
Authorities are also expected to examine the circumstances surrounding his departure from the US and his subsequent return to Punjab.
The arrest marks a significant development in the case, while further details are expected to emerge as investigators continue questioning the accused and examining the available evidence.
