Jalandhar (Gurpreet Singh): Three youths lost their lives in a horrific road accident in Jalandhar early Saturday after their car collided with a Canter parked on the highway. The crash took place at around 6 am near Bhagat Singh Colony in the Maksudan area, close to Bal Hospital.
According to the police, the car was travelling towards Amritsar from Jalandhar when it struck the stationary heavy vehicle at high speed. The collision caused extensive damage to the car, leaving its roof badly torn and debris scattered across the road.
Bodies recovered from mangled car
The force of the crash left two occupants trapped inside the front section of the car. Police and rescue personnel had to work to remove the bodies from the severely damaged vehicle.
The third occupant, believed to have been seated in the rear, was thrown onto the road during the collision. All three died at the scene.
Their bodies have been shifted to the Civil Hospital, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted. The identities of the deceased have not yet been officially confirmed.
Police trace families through vehicle details
SHO Rakesh Kumar said the vehicle’s registration details have helped investigators establish a possible connection to the Lamme Pind-Randhawa area. Police teams are contacting relatives to confirm the identities of those killed.
Investigators are also collecting CCTV footage from the surrounding area to reconstruct the moments leading up to the collision.
Canter driver not found
Police are separately investigating why the Canter was left standing on the highway. Preliminary suspicion is that the driver may have parked the vehicle and subsequently left the location. Investigators are checking whether the truck had developed a problem or whether other circumstances led to it being abandoned on the road.
The driver remains untraced. Police are using the Canter’s registration number to locate him.
The exact circumstances of the crash, including the speed of the car and the reason the Canter was stationary on the highway, will be established as the investigation progresses.
