Shimla (Rajeev Sharma): Rainfall activity has slowed across Himachal Pradesh over the past week, with the state registering a noticeable monsoon deficit even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts intermittent showers in the days ahead.
According to the latest weather data, Himachal received 13 per cent less rainfall than normal during the last seven days. The biggest shortfall was reported from Lahaul-Spiti, where precipitation remained 87 per cent below the seasonal average. Other districts experiencing deficient rainfall include Hamirpur, Solan, Mandi, Chamba, Kangra and Shimla.
In contrast, several districts recorded rainfall above normal levels. Sirmaur witnessed the highest surplus, while Una, Bilaspur and Kinnaur also received more rain than the average for the period, highlighting the uneven spread of the monsoon across the hill state.
Isolated Heavy Rain Still Likely
Although monsoon intensity has eased, the IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall in different parts of Himachal Pradesh until August 11. Heavy showers are likely at isolated locations on August 6, 9, 10 and 11, while more widespread rain is expected on August 7 and 8.
A Yellow Alert has also been issued for vulnerable districts, prompting authorities to remain prepared for weather-related disruptions.
Temperatures Expected to Stay Near Normal
The Meteorological Department has stated that there is no significant change expected in maximum or minimum temperatures over the next few days. Weather conditions are likely to remain stable despite the intermittent rainfall.
Safety Advisory Issued
Officials have advised residents and tourists to exercise caution, particularly in landslide-prone areas and along rivers and seasonal streams. People have also been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and to rely on official weather updates for the latest advisories.
Authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather situation as the state remains susceptible to rain-triggered incidents despite the recent decline in overall monsoon activity.
