Shimla (Rajeev Sharma): Himachal Pradesh is set to experience another day of active monsoon conditions, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread rainfall and issuing yellow and orange weather alerts for several districts. Authorities have advised residents and tourists to remain cautious as heavy showers may trigger landslides, flash floods and traffic disruptions.
According to the IMD, moderate rainfall is likely across much of the state, while isolated areas could witness intense downpours. The warning covers Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Una and Chamba, where weather conditions are expected to remain unstable throughout the day.
Officials have cautioned that persistent rainfall may lead to landslides, falling rocks, overflowing seasonal streams and waterlogging in vulnerable locations. Mountain roads are also likely to be affected, increasing the possibility of temporary road closures and travel delays.
The weather department has urged people to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in landslide-prone regions. Residents have also been advised to stay away from rivers, streams and other low-lying areas where sudden flooding could occur. Drivers using hill roads have been asked to exercise extra caution and follow traffic advisories issued by local authorities.
Meteorologists indicated that the southwest monsoon will continue to influence Himachal Pradesh over the coming days, resulting in recurring spells of rain across several parts of the state.
In anticipation of any emergencies, the state administration has directed district officials and disaster management teams to remain on high alert. Authorities have appealed to the public to stay informed through official weather bulletins, avoid spreading rumours and immediately contact emergency services if required.
The IMD said it is closely monitoring the evolving weather pattern and will issue updated forecasts and advisories as conditions develop, while urging citizens to remain vigilant until the current spell of heavy rainfall subsides.
