Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): In a major administrative crackdown aimed at ensuring structural transparency, Haryana Minister of State for Sports Gaurav Gautam ordered the immediate closure of 10 sports nurseries operating across the state. The strict executive action targets serious operational irregularities and structural negligence running rampant within these grassroots training centers. Following an exhaustive evaluation of a field verification report generated by senior departmental officials, the sports minister enforced the shutdown of non-compliant nurseries scattered across four key districts, including Mewat, Yamunanagar, Hisar, and Bhiwani.
The comprehensive field probe exposed alarming infrastructural deficiencies and severe mismanagement across the penalized institutions. The closed facilities include three nurseries at the Government Model Sanskriti School in Nuh, a cycling nursery at the Shaheed Parminder Singh Government Senior Secondary School in Tejli, Yamunanagar, a boxing center at the Government Girls Senior Secondary School in Arya Nagar, Hisar, and two football centers at the Government Senior Secondary School in Gangwa, Hisar. Additionally, two football units under the Masudpur Panchayat in Hisar and two separate facilities for boxing and volleyball at the GMSSSS in Bhiwani were shut down. Investigative teams discovered that these centers lacked even basic athletic gear and modern equipment, maintaining poorly managed fields that posed severe injury risks to young trainees. Furthermore, audits revealed massive discrepancies between the number of athletes registered on paper and the actual physical attendance recorded on the ground.
Issuing a stern warning to regional sports deputy directors and training coaches, Minister Gautam emphasized that administrative laxity during routine inspections or during the future allotment of sports nurseries will invite immediate disciplinary action. He noted that comprehensive screening operations will expand across all remaining state-supported nurseries to systematically weed out non-performance. The minister asserted that the state will maintain zero tolerance for elements compromising the safety, training quality, or competitive future of young athletes, threatening immediate closure for any facility found lagging in its operational duties.
This sweeping optimization drive forms a critical component of Haryana’s foundational groundwork for international sporting events. Highlighting the state’s long-term athletic vision, Minister Gautam stated that the government is fully committed to providing world-class infrastructure and transparent breeding grounds for local talent under the broader Mission Olympic 2036. As India actively prepares to position itself for hosting the 2036 Olympic Games, Haryana has established a highly ambitious target of securing at least 36 Olympic medals for the national tally, a goal that requires turning grassroots training nurseries into absolute centers of excellence.
