Haryana Raises Bajra Procurement Price, Assures MSP Payment to Farmers

Chandigarh, September 27: The Haryana government has announced an increase of ₹50 per quintal in the procurement price of bajra, raising it to ₹2,200 per quintal through state agencies. Additionally, under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana, farmers will receive a direct transfer of ₹575 per quintal into their bank accounts, ensuring they get the full Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2,775 per quintal set by the Centre.

A spokesperson from the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department said the procurement price was earlier ₹2,150 per quintal, with ₹625 per quintal transferred under the Bhavantar scheme. The revised structure, he added, continues to guarantee farmers the MSP declared by the Government of India.

He explained that the decision was taken after reviewing current market trends of bajra, keeping in view the interests of farmers. Importantly, if private traders purchase bajra from farmers via the e-procurement system at more than ₹2,200 per quintal, the government will still provide ₹575 per quintal under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana, giving farmers earnings above the MSP.

The spokesperson also highlighted that bajra procurement for the Kharif season 2025–26, originally scheduled to begin on October 1, was advanced to September 23. For this, 92 mandis and procurement centers have been set up across the state, with Hafed and the Haryana State Warehousing Corporation handling purchases. So far, 5,06,313 farmers have registered for bajra procurement on the Meri Fasal Mera Byora portal.
