Haryana Plans 100% Tax Exemption on Electric Vehicles, Proposal Sent to Government: Transport Minister Anil Vij

Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij on Monday announced that the state government is preparing to promote electric vehicles (EVs) on a large scale by proposing a 100 per cent tax exemption on EV purchases, similar to policies implemented in Chandigarh and Delhi.
Speaking to mediapersons ahead of the Haryana Cabinet meeting in Chandigarh, Vij said the proposal has already been sent to the government with the aim of encouraging more people to switch to electric mobility.
He said the state government believes tax relief on electric vehicles would significantly increase public interest and accelerate the adoption of eco-friendly transportation across Haryana.
“The proposal has been prepared on the lines of Chandigarh and Delhi, where electric vehicles are being given full tax exemption. If such relief is provided in Haryana, people’s inclination towards electric vehicles will increase rapidly,” Vij said.
The Transport Minister also revealed that the Haryana government is set to purchase 500 electric buses as part of a major push towards strengthening sustainable public transport infrastructure in the state.
Calling it a significant step towards an “EV revolution” in Haryana, Vij said the move reflects the government’s commitment to cleaner mobility solutions and reducing environmental pollution.
Replying to another question regarding cabinet procedures, Vij said it is the Chief Minister who has the special authority to decide which proposals are brought before the Cabinet for approval.
He added that departments regularly hold virtual meetings and several administrative matters are also resolved through telephonic discussions.
