Haryana Governor Urges Young Doctors to Guard Medical Ethics and Human Compassion at Rohtak Medical University Convocation

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Governor and Chancellor of Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Professor Asim Kumar Ghosh, called upon young medical graduates to adopt compassion, ethical integrity, and public service as the foundational guiding principles of their professional careers. Addressing the high-profile fifth convocation ceremony of the university in Rohtak on Saturday, Governor Ghosh emphasized that the medical profession is not merely a commercial livelihood, but a sacred sovereign responsibility dedicated to the preservation of human life. He stated that clinicians represent symbols of hope, public trust, and resilience within society, requiring them to discharge their diagnostic duties with empathy and humility.

The formal convocation venue, which was also attended by Haryana’s First Lady Mitra Ghosh, witnessed the academic conferral of degrees onto 950 qualifying candidates across diverse undergraduate and postgraduate medical streams. To recognize exceptional academic merit, Governor Ghosh personally presented institutional gold medals to 68 distinguished scholars, while simultaneously releasing the university’s annual academic souvenir. Congratulating the newly minted doctors and their assembled guardians, the Governor noted that a convocation marks the beginning of a lifelong journey of accountability, rather than just the completion of a curriculum. Paying tribute to Haryana’s first Chief Minister and freedom fighter, Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma, the Governor remarked that the university has effectively institutionalized the ethos of service being the highest duty.

Evaluating the institution’s operational growth, the Governor highly commended the university’s expanding footprints in clinical research, healthcare delivery, and public welfare across northern India. He expressed notable appreciation for the institute’s innovative Tele-consultation infrastructure and the doorstep medical initiative titled “Health at Your Doorstep,” noting that these community-oriented systems have fundamentally bolstered tertiary healthcare accessibility for rural families. Professor Ghosh reserved special praise for the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation campaign spearheaded by the university administration. He stated that the organ donation drive has brought renewed life to countless families, reflecting the philosophy that no altruistic act surpasses the gift of life.

The Chancellor highlighted how the Prime Minister’s consistent appeals via the national radio program “Mann Ki Baat” have successfully transformed organ donation awareness into a massive citizen-led movement across the country. Reflecting on the intense clinical exposure gained by students during their mandatory hospital internship phases, Governor Ghosh reminded the assembly of the profound faith patients place in their attending physicians. Asserting that India requires a substantial influx of dedicated medical professionals willing to serve in interior and economically backward rural sectors, the Governor expressed deep confidence that the new batch of graduates would actively drive medical innovation, clinical research, and the comprehensive modernization of India’s healthcare infrastructure.
