Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): The Haryana government has finalized logistics arrangements to guarantee the timely delivery of certified, high-grade wheat seeds to farmers across the state ahead of the upcoming Rabi sowing season. Presiding over a high-powered purchase committee meeting in Chandigarh on September 30, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana, alongside Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda, cleared key operational approvals focused on agricultural logistics and school-based soil health education.
To prevent supply chain bottlenecks before sowing commences, the committee formally finalized and approved freight transportation rates for moving certified wheat seeds from key processing facilities of the Haryana Seeds Development Corporation. The designated dispatch hubs in Hisar, Tohana, Pataudi, Yamunanagar, Sirsa, and Umri in Kurukshetra will transport seed consignments directly to more than 80 district and block-level distribution depots statewide, ensuring uninterrupted access for local cultivators.
Bridging the agriculture and education sectors, the committee also sanctioned tenders for the procurement of mini soil testing kits designated for science laboratories across the state’s PM SHRI schools. Under this programme, secondary school students will undergo practical training in soil sampling and chemical analysis before conducting on-field tests for agricultural holdings in adjacent villages.
Following laboratory evaluation, agricultural scientists and regional extension officers will examine the soil test data to provide farmers with customized recommendations on nutrient management, fertilizer application, and crop selection tailored to soil fertility levels. Officials noted that this scientific guidance aims to enhance soil health, boost crop productivity, minimize excess chemical usage, and reduce input costs to raise net farm incomes.
