Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh) — Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday expressed his deep gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government for allocating India’s first hydrogen fuel cell-based DEMU train to Haryana. The Chief Minister hailed the decision as a historic milestone, not just for the state but for the entire nation, stating that it will establish a new identity for India in modern, environment-friendly, and future-oriented public transit systems.
Chief Minister Saini noted that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi, Indian Railways is advancing rapidly toward green energy and world-class infrastructure. He stated that receiving the country’s first hydrogen-powered train reflects the central government’s unwavering commitment to connecting Haryana with cutting-edge global technologies.
The Railway Board has officially approved the operation of the 10-coach hydrogen fuel cell-based DPRS 1200 kW DEMU train, which will run between Jind and Sonipat. The train is designed to operate at a maximum speed of 75 kilometres per hour. Saini emphasized that this project will position Haryana as a pioneering hub for clean, safe, and modern rail transport technology in India.
The Chief Minister added that hydrogen-based trains will serve as the backbone of future mass transit, significantly curbing carbon emissions and providing a fresh impetus to the country’s Green Energy Mission. He concluded that this major infrastructure boost will unlock new avenues for technological innovation, industrial growth, and sustainable investment across Haryana, making the state a leading partner in India’s clean energy transition.
