Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): A High-Powered Purchase Committee meeting, chaired by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini at Haryana Niwas on Monday evening, concluded with the approval of procurement proposals worth approximately ₹252 crore for various state departments. During the session, the Chief Minister held direct negotiations with corporate suppliers to lower commodity rates, emphasizing fiscal responsibility and the prudent management of public funds.
The approved allocations include critical infrastructure upgrades for the state’s power distribution networks. Contracts worth nearly ₹175 crore were cleared for the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam to purchase 18,000 units of 50 square mm “Rabbit” overhead conductors. Additionally, a contract worth approximately ₹13 crore was approved for the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited to procure five specialized variants of 132/66 KV Control and Relay panels.
The committee also cleared a major procurement proposal for the Haryana Police Department to acquire specialized security equipment, enhancing law enforcement capabilities across the state. Furthermore, a two-year insurance coverage proposal for the fleet of the Haryana Transport Department—which spans standard buses, air-conditioned coaches, mini-buses, and driver training school vehicles—received official approval. Chief Minister Saini successfully negotiated with the state-owned United India Insurance Company to maintain the insurance premiums at the previous year’s competitive rates.
Reiterating that the government acts strictly as a custodian of public wealth, Chief Minister Saini instructed all administrative heads to maintain total transparency and accountability throughout the procurement process. He mandated that every department perform rigorous comparative studies of market rates, historical pricing data, and procurement frameworks utilized by other states to ensure that public money is utilized efficiently. Senior cabinet ministers Mahipal Dhanda and Shruti Choudhry attended the meeting, alongside senior bureaucrats from the home, power, finance, and transport departments.
