Governor Prof. Asim Kumar Ghosh Pays Tribute to Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Governor Prof. Asim Kumar Ghosh paid rich floral tributes to Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan and former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Emergency.

Terming June 26, 1975, as the darkest chapter in the history of Indian democracy, the Governor stated that the declaration of the Emergency marked an unprecedented assault on democratic values. He noted that during that period, fundamental rights of citizens were completely suspended, freedom of the press was crushed, opposition leaders were imprisoned, and severe restrictions were imposed on civil liberties.

The Governor highlighted that Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan emerged as the guiding light and inspiration for the movement to restore democracy, while Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s unwavering commitment to democratic principles and national interest remains a permanent source of inspiration for the country. He added that the immense sacrifices of countless democracy freedom fighters (Loktantra Senanis) who fought under such adverse conditions to safeguard the nation’s democratic fabric can never be forgotten.

Prof. Asim Kumar Ghosh asserted that the nation will forever remain indebted to those brave fighters who courageously faced imprisonment, persecution, and numerous hardships to protect democratic institutions and uphold the dignity of the Constitution. He stated that their courage, sacrifice, and absolute dedication to democratic ideals will continue to inspire future generations. The Governor’s ADC Dheeraj Setia, along with other officials and staff members of Lok Bhavan, were also present on the occasion.
